New workstation for document examination
has high resolution imaging system
Foster & Freeman have launched a new workstation
for document examination, the VSC2000/HR, with a much improved
imaging system and additional facilities for examining security
documents. The new design utilises a higher resolution colour
video camera which delivers an image comprised of 1360×1024
picture elements, a resolution four times greater than most
other workstations currently available. The result is sparkling
image quality and much finer detail. The new model will be
available in January 2001.
The high-resolution camera is supported with
an improved lens system which offers two zoom magnification
ranges, approximately ×2 to ×20 and ×7 to ×70 on the display
screen. Switching from one to the other is automatic and initiated
through on screen commands. The option to increase the range
even further, to ×14 to ×140, is also available through digital
magnification by dropping the resolution back to the standard
680 × 512 pixel definition.
Other features include additional UV lamps for
the examination of security documents. These are to facilitate
the examination of many new types of banknotes and passports
designed with fluorescent features that require either transmitted
long wave UV or incident short wave UV to observe.
Optional extras include an image analysis software
package that enables examiners to measure distances, angles,
areas and radii for a more quantitative means of identifying
counterfeit documents.
The company is offering a factory refit to all
VSC2000 users who wish to upgrade to the new VSC200/HR specification.
Including shipping, the work will take approximately three
weeks and the company will undertake all shipping arrangements
and provide a replacement system for use in the meantime.
