The latent fingerprint enhancement & recording system

  • 6 million pixel digital camera.
  • Image enhancement software.
  • High intensity LED ring light.
  • Image validation software.
  • Software interface for camera.
  • Photographic quality prints.
  • Battery pack for scenes of crime.
  • Image archiving.
  • NAFIS interface.

The DCS-3 is a complete turnkey system for the capture, enhancement and printing of latent fingerprints, featuring a high performance digital camera, high intensity LED illumination, image validation for evidence protection and a unique software ‘toolbox’ system that provides a wide range of programmes for image enhancement.

Key to the effectiveness of the DCS-3 is the simple way in which enhancement software is made available to the operator, allowing complex operations to be applied in just a few clicks of the PC mouse.

The comprehensive range of programmes is presented in a series of easy to use ‘toolboxes’ each containing programmes suitable for a particular type of image. There are, for example, toolboxes to enhance fingerprint images on patterned, coloured and uneven backgrounds, images treated with a variety of developers and those found in blood, grease or dust and many other situations.

The high intensity LED ring light, Crime-lite® 4×4, provides narrow band illumination for fluorescence photography plus white light and includes slot-in camera filters, a polarising filter set and bellows for safety shielding.

DCS-3 also has a direct interface capability to the UK's National Automated Fingerprint Identification System (NAFIS). All UK police forces have access to NAFIS which enables scene of crime prints to be searched against a national database of offenders' prints. The interface is established by installing a cable link from the DCS-3's installed network card to the NAFIS terminal and loading an additional software module available from PITO (the Police Information Technology Organisation).
