ePassports
A biometric passport, also known as an ePassport, is a paper document embedded wiith a microchip containing biometric data, that complies with ICAO specifications, which can be used to verify the identity the document's owner. Biometric data stored on the microchip can be compared with details printed on the physical document. Data stored on an ePassport microchip typically includes a digitised image, name, sex, date of birth, nationality, passport number and passport expiry date. ICAO compliant ePassports are used worldwide and can be quickly identified by the international ePassort symbol printed on the front cover.
In addition to the biometric data microchip, most ePassports also feature a number of additional first, second and third level document security features, including:
