Training in Standard Operating Procedures for the forensic examination of various types of crime scenes such as burglary, offences against the person and vehicle crime, emphasising best practice in the recovery of evidence. The course is supported throughout by numerous realistic practical exercises to ensure a full understanding is established.

● Health and safety at crime scenes
● Identification of fingerprints, methods of recovery and recording from various surfaces
● Identification, recovery and recording of a variety of physical evidence
● Techniques for locating and enhancing footwear marks
● Use of recovery techniques for a variety of crime scene stains
● DNA recovery and preservation
● Packaging, labelling and storage of exhibits
● Basic scene of crime photography
● Note-taking, integrity and continuity statements

Participants:

Those new to the role of crime scene investigation wishing to achieve best practice in evidence recovery at all types of crime scene.

Training in Standard Operating Procedures appropriate to major crime scene examination ensuring that an optimal forensic strategy is adopted that maximises evidence recovery. The course is supported throughout by numerous realistic practical exercises to ensure a full understanding.

● Establishing crime scene security
● Scene preservation and minimisation of contamination and destruction of evidence
● Carry out briefings and de-briefings
● Maximising the potential of the forensic evidence available
● Ensuring packaging and labelling of exhibits is complete and correct
● Managing people within the crime scene
● Liaising with senior investigating officers, scientists and other specialists
● Completion of scene logs and other relevant scene of crime documentation throughout the investigation
● Ensure scene is fully evaluated from a forensic perspective

Those with a basic level of Scene of Crime knowledge and supervisory police officers wishing to develop best practice in crime scene management from a forensic aspect.
