TECHNOLOGY FOR THE DETECTION, CAPTURE & ENHANCEMENT OF FINGERPRINTS

Sequential treatment (of fingerprints)

In order to maximise the ridge detail development of a latent fingerprint it is often necessary to use multiple treatments. The order in which different treatments is applied is of the upmost importance and is usually referred to as the 'correct sequence'.

In the main, any fingerprint develpment sequence will begin with optical techniques that are entirely non-contact and non-destructive and may yield sufficient results without the need for chemical treatments.

With each fingerprint treatment applied during a sequence the original print may be degraded, because of this fingerprints should be photographed at every stage of the development sequence.
